Lucky the leprechaun

Our tradition continues, until Austin starts reading our blog. :)

We told stories around St. Patrick’s Day with the kids. One story was around a leprechaun who would visit if you made them a comfortable place. So, Austin set out to do just that.

Austin set out a chair made of a jewelry box, a Barbie doll (for company – stop the dirty minds), and a treat for a leprechaun on St. Patrick’s Day.

Well, I heard noises around 11:30 last night. While I was investigating, I found Austin sitting up in bed. He was waiting for the leprechaun. I assured him that they would not visit if you were awake. Austin knew, from the story, that if he caught the leprechaun he would get a pot of gold. So he went back to bed only to get up later at 3:30 am. This time, he was up and ready for school!!! I said, “What are you doing?” While I appreciate the eagerness of going to school, we need to get more sleep. He agreed and went back to bed. Finally, Austin was ecstatic, if you couldn’t tell by now, he was even up around 6:15, again. A much better time. He came down all dress and ready for school. He was eager to read me the letter that Luck the leprechaun had left. And, he told me about the two gold coins Lucky left. Austin said Lucky hid them on the floor in front of the stand in the hallway, but he found them! He was vey excited. He even told Jenni and read her the letter. Now, I’m not sure if he gave Jenni a coin, but there was no whining. So, it must have been ok! It was very exciting this morning!!!

2009 Veterans Stand Down

Today I had the privilege, the honor to give back and help my fellow comrades at the Charlotte Veterans Stand Down! There was plenty to do and it appeared a daunting task. But us volunteers chipped away so fast and took mountains of cloths, scattered shoes, empty backpacks, nick-nacks of all kinds and created a highly organized place in which anyone would feel welcomed! We started separating loads of cloths accrodingly; men, women, size, weight (summer/winter). Then we got boots arranged and duffle bags filled with sleeping bags and a mat. I got the honor to greet the veterans as they entered. We took record of them and provided them with a meals, clothing, medical, just a great many things! A great, heartfelt work. This was another fantastic experience and I recommend anyone to join me.

Linda Dennisuk started the day off with a very moving speach which honored two of our fallen soldiers.

Hard at work are Kevin and Charlotte!

Nice fold. I'm telling your wife!

STATS:
Reached 187 individuals on Friday
143 veterans
44 civilians
More than 155 service providers, volunteers, sponsors, donors, and county staff attend the event.

We all have a calling. We only need to open our hearts and listen. Move yourself and join your heart! Give back!
