In Memory of Mr. Aten
It was so sad to see the flag at half-staff and flowers at the corner of the crosswalk at the school this morning in memory of Mr. Aten.
Our neighbor said so eloquently "Mr. Jeff Aten from Sandy Ridge passed away yesterday. He collapsed on the campus of Marvin Ridge High School while running yesterday evening.
Mr. Aten touched every student and family at Sandy Ridge. He stood out at the crosswalk in front of the school directing traffic and shepherding our children in and out through all kinds of weather. He taught all the students computers and keyboarding. He was the student council advisor and founded the science olympiad. He coached volleyball and lacrosse at the high school where his daughter is a junior. This will be a hard time for the Sandy Ridge and Marvin Ridge community."

Varrow Madness 2015: Part I
Varrow
Madness 2015
The buzz was in the air around the mash up of St. Pattyās
Day, NCAA March Madness, and technology that only Varrow can pull off. Albeit, I was a last minute entry into this
event and I had some reservations. But,
a compād nightsā stay and dinner was very persuasive. Letās face it. I love to meet people anyhow. Iām social.
So I was going. I just had to override
my cynical āanother vendor eventā mind set.
And, Iām glad I did.
Sheraton, where is
this place?
But, Greensboro? Well,
off we go. The Koury Convention Center
is a great place that is proudly and prominently displayed. However, it is a
Sheraton hotel. That would have been a
good piece of information to know while we were trying to locate the Sheraton hotel. J With that said, those very minor issues all
melted away as I noticed that the hotel was hosting the NCAA Girls swim
team. And I digressā¦ On to the next event, dinner hosted by
Varrow. The place, Castle McCulloch.
Uber
Our transportation, Uber.
If you arenāt familiar with Uber, suffice it to say that it is
crowsource at its best. While I fully
embrace new and innovative ideas, of all types, not everyone is as ready as
they believe they are. Case in point, my
colleagues who are watching the caravan of 15 passenger vans pass by, their
minds set on some perceived standard transportation. Our Uber rideā¦ straight out of the fashionable
Red Hat society fully complimented with a Dodge Caliber. Liken the Caliber to a fashionable 4 door AMC
Pacer. As my colleagues were processing
what was about to take place, I entered the drives side back seat and preparing
to buckle up. In the process I felt a colleague
brush up on my hip. As I turned to
buckle the seatbelt, I realized that there was no way I was going to finish
that move. Three of us are now in the
back of this car and one in the passenger front. Yes, 5 people, 4 slightly larger than average
males. We were in for a ride. Iām not sure they had this type of joy ride
in mind. As accommodating as our Uber
driver was, there was just too much comedy pinned up. As we drove away, I was reminded of myself as
a child -a chunky kid wheezing while pushing my Tonka Toy. Besides the few missed turns, parking lot mishaps,
and sightseeing we did make it to the dinner event. However, we arrived behind a car load of
folks that left after us. It was a
amusing for me, if not for Uber, my colleagueās faces were hilarious.
More to come on the rest of that evening!
